1 - Visit the Walls of Dubrovnik
The magnificent walls surrounding the city on all four sides contain a respectable collection of heritage and renowned cultural monuments, towers, forts, churches, monasteries, squares and streets, ports, old schools, museums and galleries. It is a gift inherited by all its citizens and lovers of romantic and inspirational past times.
In 1979, UNESCO added the old city of Dubrovnik, which includes a substantial portion of the old walls of Dubrovnik to its list of World Heritage Sites.
The Walls of Dubrovnik are a series of defensive stone walls that have surrounded and protected the citizens of the afterward proclaimed maritime city-state of Dubrovnik situated in southern Croatia, since the city's founding prior to the 7th century as a Byzantium castrum.
With numerous additions and modifications throughout their history, they have been considered to be amongst the great fortification systems of the Middle Ages, as they were never breached by a hostile army during this time.
The walls of Dubrovnik have five significant fortifications
• The circular Minčeta Tower in the North
• Revelin Fortress in the East
• Fort Bokar at the Western city entrance
• St. Lawrence Fortress in the West
• The large St. John Fortress on the South East side

2 - St John Fort, the Maritime Museum and Aquarium
Combine your trip to the Walls of Dubrovnik with a visit to the St John Fort. It contains Dubrovnik’s Maritime Museum and the Dubrovnik Aquarium.
St John’s Fort dates back to the 13th Century and has grown extensively over the centuries. It traditionally formed part of the seaward defense of the city of Dubrovnik, a bulwark against pirates and invaders.

The Renaissance-Baroque city of Dubrovnik will again offer a rich programme of classical music, theatre, opera and dance for its 62nd festival in 2011-
The festival takes place on more than 30 open air stages in palaces, churches, monasteries and forts around the city.
