Nature and climate in Croatia
The Croatian climate reflects the beauty of a natural balance which is a result of its biodiversity. The Mediterranean symbolizes the tenderness of the sun and earth; it is a symbol of being focused on nature and man. The fertile, arable soil, forest fruit, the flora and fauna, the abundant sea world and the forests are the unique features of this type of climate. Croatia can pride itself on an extremely favourable and pleasant climate. The preserved nature and people cherishing it have made Croatia known as one of the rare countries with such intact nature.
The long, sunny summer days, the warm sea, the mild winters and the lush vegetation are the features specific for the coastal part of Croatia. The wind has adapted the flora and fauna to the direction it is blowing in and it has laid down the foundations for the construction of strong stone houses, docks and towns, as part of the system intended for protection and defence.
The forests are known for the mountain climate, and somewhat stronger winters with larger quantities of snow. The rich and thick forests have become habitats of numerous plant and animal species.
The Pannonian Valley’s climate is more of a strong continental climate which served in favour of the development of numerous lakes, rivers and fertile fields; places where many bird species, freshwater fish, flora and fauna came to being and formed their habitats.
The landscapes of the Republic of Croatia are also visible in the folk costumes and traditional songs specific for each region. We can, therefore, say once again that the hundred-year-long nature’s game has strongly affected the flora and fauna in Croatia and laid down the foundations for comfortable lives of people inhabiting these areas.
