Croatian culture and sights

The Croatian culture is a combination of national, spiritual and material values formed on this area over the past centuries. The Croatian culture's identity cannot be clearly identified as one single identity. The mixing of the numerous cultures and social classes which have left their mark here resulted in a multi-cultural area and exceptional progress in terms of civilization. The culture was influenced by the prehistoric and historical heritage, the Croatian Glagolitic script, the human migrations and the strong influence of Christianity, the ruling of the nations of different beliefs and religions, as well as literature, architecture, music, dancing and tradition.

It is worth mentioning that a total of six sights have been enlisted into the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Diocletian’s Palace in Split, the Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč, Plitvice Lakes, the Roman City of Trogir, the Old City of Dubrovnik and the Šibenik Cathedral.

Let us also mention the eight national parks of exceptional natural beauty and harmony: the islands of Brijuni and Kornati, Krka waterfalls, the island of Mljet, Paklenica, Plitvice Lakes, Risnjak and Northern Velebit, which is known for the endemic species – the Velebit degenia. Croatia is proud of its nature parks and ornithological reserves which are not only of high natural value; they are examples of cultural and geographic treasures. Nature Parks Biokovo, Kopački rit, Lonjsko polje, Medvednica and Papuk, Telašćica, Velebit, Učka, Žumberak and Lastovo Islands are unique symbols of Croatian culture and heritage.
